Hi there my friends! Today is a very good day because today we celebrate the planet that gives home to all the lovely friends I’ve had the luck to meet so far:
Earth! 🌍
The other day I was wondering why that date is specifically on May 22 🤔and after doing some research, I learned about the origin of this day, why and how it was created and I wanted to share what I learned with you! 😊
On April 22, 1970, the first of many demonstrations in favor of environmental care took place at Northwestern University 🏛️ in Illinois, United States. It was attended by over 2,000 universities, 10,000 primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of different communities. The widespread social pressure had the desired results, and in that same year, the United States Government created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) along with a first series of laws for environmental defense. 🌍
Despite being celebrated for years, it was not until 2009 that the United Nations proclaimed the date as an official commemoration. 🎉
